2010 Home page with 2010 Results December 25, 2011 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. November 23, 2011 Thanks for a Great Year!
It was a very successful year for the RMNFCA, we started out in May with 9 cars and by the time of our year end party we had 13 teams represented. As a group we had many highlights, from the bigger events such as the 32 funny car show in Mission B.C to the IHRA National event in Edmonton. We also had several smaller but equally exciting events such as in Provost and Drayton Valley Ab. to name a few. Several of our members also traveled and represented the group at other events including the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bakersfield Ca., Super Chevy Sunday in Phoenix, Salt Lake City and even Port Alberni BC. We look forward to 2012 and remain committed to putting on a fun, exciting show where the fans are always welcome to interact with us. With 2 new teams bringing our number to 15 cars we will constantly strive to maintain a high standard with all our teams in both equipment and also appearance of car and crew every time we come to a race track. From all the members of the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car Association we would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. We look forward to seeing everyone back at our events in 2012. For any
inquiries into our group contact either: October 21, 2011 Bakersfield California Hot Rod Reunion.
October 21-23, 2011 Pro 7.0 qualifying. Final results
Cal went 7.05 and did not improve while Joey came oh so close to making it, with a 6.980, 2/100ths too quick. Ron failed to improve with either car and his 7.074 best was #18. The bump was an amazing 7.051. Cal went to the semi finals where he jumped the gun and went red, great job overall Cal. Ron got in as an alternate due to breakage, but he lost in round one. Rocky Mountain bud Greg Howland also got in as an alterante and he went to the final round, breaking out by .007. A great showing by the floppers in this tough class. I guess it is time for the flopper hibernation until next spring, unless a few decide to keep their cars South and play a bit over the winter.

Three Rocky Mountain drivers are in attendance at the reunion this year, and two of the three are in the field and one is just a tad too fast. Cal Tebb made a great run in round one with a 7.013. It actually is only fourth best on a 7.00 index. Amazingly two drivers ran 7.00 (one with a 7 and one with a 9)and one other is two thou ahead of Cal with a 7.011. Ron Sekura had the chutes out at 1200 feet and ran a 7.074. Joey Steckler went a too fast 6.950. There are 29 cars trying out for the 16 car field. Two other Canadians are trying to make the cut but both Darrell Webb and Cory Anstad are well outside the field. Two NW/BB drivers are also trying to make the cut., Ron Tiki Man Huegli is in with a 7.121 and Greg Howland is just outside with a 7.191. The bump is 7.184.

Sept 5, 2011 Drayton Valley's Thunder in the Valley (Photos to follow) Great weather, a great crowd and a great time has had by all at Drayton Valley this Labour Day long weekend. Corey Sekura was the overall winner for the weekend, with a win in race #2, and and a strong run in race #1. This recap from Cal: "We had a great
weekend in Drayton, weather was beautiful and the crowds were huge. On Saturday
I think every seat was taken in the bleachers, a little bit quieter on Sunday
but still an awesome crowd". August 15. 2011 Provost Drag Racing. (Provost Alberta) Rocky Mountain photos
Just three days after the Hot August Nights race at Castrol Raceway seven teams went East to Provost Alberta. On the Friday four of the teams put on displays in the town to promote the event.
This is the second year for the drag in Provost Alberta. It like many once a year events is held at the host city's local Airport.
It is a 5500 foot airstrip which is more than long enough for even the quickest exhibition race cars. The Rocky Mountain floppers had seven cars make the trek to the East Central town and it was a great time. Because it is used only once a year, there is very little traction and they run 1/8 mile on Saturday and then 1/4 mile on Sunday.
The hope is to add some rubber down in the first half of the track and then on Sunday the cars can run a full 1/4 mile. While it is great in theory, with a front motored race car like a Funny Car, it is tough to get traction at the best of times.
It was proved at the event as the runs down the track were hard to deciphre from the burnout before the run. But the event is about fun and putting on a wild show for the fans, and that it what the seven floppers did.
Norm Kolwich, Ron Sekura, Cory Kincaid Arvid Fostad, Cal Tebb, Joey Steckler and newcomer Roddy McMillian were on hand to lay down some noise and smoke. No six second ets were recorded but lots of rubber was in the air for the event.
Roddy McMillian is the newest member of the assoc and will debut a 69 Mustang either later this year or in 2012. His car is a state of the art TAFC and Roddy had plans to run in Top ALcohol Funny Car. But with the rules changes over the last year and the costs of competing in a class that looks to be going downward instead of upward, the enticement of the second year Rocky Mountain series in the NW made his decision to be a part of that group was easy. He will be a great addition to the RMNFCA. Provost was a blast for sure! Next up is the Drayton Valley "Thunder in the Valley" event the Labour Day long weekend.
August 13, 2011 This coming weekend the teams are at Provost Alberta for their annual drag racing adventure. (Sheryl Ogonoski photos) (click on Sheryl's name for the entire gallery from the Hot August Nights event)
Hot August Nights at Castrol Raceway was a huge event as usual. Close to 10,000 fans turnout out despite the threat of bad weather (they were lucky there was no moisture).
Showing up from the RMNFCA was Joey Steckler, Cal Tebb, Norm Kolwich, Arvid Fonstad, Cory Kincad, and Corey Sekura.
It was a two run race so the teams paired off and the bragging rights go to the car or team that makes their two runs closest to our 6.99 index.
This year the team the closest to the number was the Joey Steckler team, they ran a 7.00 and a 7.01 , next was Cal Tebb running a 7.13 and 7.01. The rest of the teams put on a great show with everyone making passes in the low 7 second range.
August 12, 2011 Port Alberni road trip for Cal Tebb.
Cal's road trip (extended racing holiday) continued at Port Alberni last weekend. He made four laps and had a blast at the local airport. The Port Alberni event is the largest motrosport happening on Vancouver Island and attracts 6-10,000 people for the two days. The entire centre Island gets involved.
On Cal's first run, he laid down a 500 foot burnout and then on the run he blacktracked the entire 1/4 mile and ran a 7teen. He blazed the tires on the second lap and in his match race against Brent Murray in Doug Murray's dragster at the end of the weekend, the dragster hooked up and Cal had traction issues with the hi-hp flopper again.
While the GTO did not set the world on fire, his goal on the weekend and the organizers hope was to lay down some great burnouts and wild runs down the strip. Based on the all over the track black tracks on the runs and the length of the burnouts and the cheers from the large crowd it was a great weekend for all involved.
Cal's honorary crew on Sunday August 3, 2011
Cal Tebb and Hank Weultjes were both at Mission Raceway (Cal for the second weekend in a row) as feature cars for the Langley Loafers event. Cal made four awesome passed running career numbers. His best was a 6.74/209.
He also went 6.75 and 6.84 at well over 205. Hank's weekend was a bit tougher as he had a few blower issues and the final run he wounded the motor Hank will now have to work hard to get the car back together for the Provost event in two weeks. Cal stayed in BC and will run this weekend at the Thunder in the Valley race at Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.
July 28, 2011 The Rocky Mountain Funny Car Assoc woud like to welcome Good Vibrations on board as an Association sponsor. Check out their web site. Cal and Hank Weultges will be featured at Mission this weekend for the Langley Loafers event. Come on out and watch the two guys as well as the AA/Gassers. The second annual season ending party this year is again at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton. It will be held October 8th. Make sure you get hold of one of the members. Last year's event was a huge success and lots of fun was had by all. There were 1000's of dollars or prizes and the food was outstanding. Make sure you book that day on your schedule. The hotel will have reduced rates if you stay. July 26, 2011
The first of two gallerys is posted. July 25, 2011 Wow, what a final and what a great event this weekend.
Qualifying photos will be added later. 10 Rocky Mountain teams entered the Open this past weekend, and 10 BB/FC as well. All the Rocky boys were at Mission by Friday afternoon in anticipation of one of their biggest races of the year. During Friday testing all made runs as well as they ran on a 6.90 index instead of a 6.99 at other events so the teams wanted to be relatively dialed in before Saturday qualifying. It was pretty well for most teams, except for the two Sekura cars. Corey ran real well in his car making three runs, running as close as 6.88. On the third run he broke a bit of the valve train and hurt the cam in the car. Ron had much more serious issues with his. He kicked the rods out on his first run and badly damaged the car. With the two engines identical, they decided to make one good one out of two, and run one car. After a long day for thrashing and repairs they did get the Camaro back together in time for round one qualifying Saturday. They ran their qualifiers against the American based NWBB/FC group. Their assoc runs on a 6.85 index so they should be some good side by side action, and a bit of rivalries for the fans. And there was! In the first round, BB/FC rookie
Todd Swinford had a single as Ron Sekura did not run due to the breakage Friday.
Joey Steckler ran Greg Howland from the NWBB group. Joey was real close to the
number, a 6.93 that would put him solidly in the field for Sunday. Eddy Plaizier
ran Kim Parker from the Southside assoc. and he made a great 6.92 pass just a
tick better than Joey. Cory Kincaid was next. He raced Shane Harter. After the
burnout Cory could not get the car to go into reverse, so he rolled down track
giving Harter the single. Next
was David Brant in the REAPER Firebird. This was his first ever NHRA event, and
he ran his best ever et, a 7.01 that put him right in the thick of it. Royce Taylor
was beside him and he had to recover from tire shake and went a 7.31/201. Next
up was Corey Sekura. The big question would be will the repairs actually hold
up in a run not just on the jack stands? Would Corey baby the car down the track
and make sure it stays together for eliminations, or would he do the Sekura
.
As in let 'er rip in the burnout and see what happens? It was #2. He laid down
a huge burnout, and then ran an awesome 6.89. Based on what they went through
to get the car back together that was a huge victory. Beside him, past Rocky Mountain
racer Brent Murray got crossed up big time and went into Corey's lane at 100 feet.
The true rookie in the group, who only made the necessary licensing runs the day
before, took on Russ Parker. Norm's car launch real good, but he started to drift
toward the wall and had to give up on the run, but he had to drive and steer the
car to keep it off the wall. He coasted to an 11 second time slip. The final run
saw Cal Tebb run Tiki-Man Ron Huegli. Both drivers did long burnouts to end the
first round. On the launch, Cal was way ahead of Ron but he too got loose, but
he went to the centre line and had to pedal and steer the car back into the groove
and coasted to a 9 second time slip. Here is the #'s from round one: Joey
Steckler 6.93 - 198.76 In round two, the top two drivers did not improve their numbers from the first session. Cal Tebb got in the 6's with a 6.97, Cory Kincaid ran a 7.03, Norm Kolwich was on a 7.0 pass but pedaled it down track and went 7.16. Arvid Fonstad went a seven teen as well. Corey Sekura was the quickest of the round and was in the last pair in the round down track. He did a 1200 foot burnout along side the Tiki - Man, it was a real cool side by side. Tiki-Man Ron Huegli got sideways on his run but Corey went another 6.89. Two great runs and proof they did a good job on the re and re. But the two runs were too quick and he did not get in the field.
Final
Qualifying First round pairings were Plaizier vs Weich, Steckler vs Fonstad, Tebb vs Kolwich, and Brant vs Kincaid. In Round one, Joey and Arvid were the first pair out and this one was an upset as Fonstad got his first ever round win.
He defeated Steckler with a 7.04 (career best) to a 7.07.
The next pair saw the second upset of the day, as Norm Kolwich took out the guy he used to crew for Cal Tebb. Norm got loose but Cal had bigger issues as he had too much of a tune-up in the car and went 6.84 on the 6.90 index. Norm was off to the semi finals. His car seemed to be a bit loose on each run (the only solid pass was the final Saturday night pass a 7.16 pass), so he had a bunch of luck in that round.
You can see his tracks as he heads to the guard rail. The question in my mind was he steering the car too much due to being new in the car, or was there an issue with the chassis.
Cory Kincaid ran David Brant and it saw Kincaid getting the round win with a 7.22 to a 7.48. The final race of the round was a close one. Al Weich broke on his final qualifier so Corey Sekura got the break and was inserted to eliminations and would face Eddy Plaizier.
Eddy got a slight holeshot and he ran close to the 6.90, a great 6.91. Corey was right in it and likely would have won any of the other pairings as he went 6.97. In the semi finals, Eddy took on Kincaid.
This one was over at the starting line as Plaizier had a huge holeshot and never looked back. He ran a 6.91 to Cory's 7.2He was off to the final round. Two first time NHRA competitors, Arvid Fonstad and Norm Kolwich were in the other semi.
Fonstad
got a holeshot, and was on a great pass, but at half track his car went a bit
lean and he popped the burst panel. Norm went through with a 7.37 victory. His
car was a bit loose again. Well, the
old saying you don't race on paper almost came through.
Norm is in a clutch car, while Eddy has a convertor car. Eddy went in second and was late getting set with the button. He was real late while Norm was deadly with a .072 light. His car was also on a string as Shane Rykdal, Cal Tebb and Joey Steckler all sorted out the handling issues with the car. It was straight as an arrow and was on what would be first six second time slip. In fact the run was too good, as he went 6.88, 2/100ths under the index handing the win to Plaizier. What a lucky break! It was a very cool final and really a victory for Kolwich as he accomplished so many things in his first weekend. Getting NHRA licensed, qualifiying for his first race, winning his first ever round of eliminations and then going to the final round, running a career best. It might have been too much if in fact he had won it all. The point's battle tightened up with the win by Plaizier. He and Tebb will battle down to the wire at the final couple events at Drayton Valley and Edmonton. The
next race is "Hot August Nights" in Edmonton, then it is Provost Alberta
for a match race. The final two events are the series final points event mentioned
above.
July 24, 2011 Eddy Plaizier was the winner at Mission but all the talk was about Norm Kolwich as he, in his first ever event goes to the final and should have won the race. The final round was actually his first solid pass in eliminations and his first 6 second run..... ever!. He took a huge holeshot against Plaizier, (Eddy had a bit of a mind slip in the final. It was a great day and will be remembered for a long time. The Sekura team is a major part of the memories for their troubles to start the weekend. The full story and photos starting Monday. July 22, 2011 Ten hours of work
by the Sekura team to make one strong bullet out of two damaged ones brought huge
success, as Corey made two fantastic runs and one full 1/4 mile burnout against
the Tikiman. Both Corey's runs were almost perfect, back to back 6.89's (the last
one a 6.897). After the thrash they had it was great to see. The bad thing was,
the hard index was a 6.90. So Corey and the team can only watch on Sunday. All
the teams were in the 6.9 to 7.2 range. David Brant went 7.01, his best lap ever,
Arvid Fonstad was in the teens and Norm Kolwich in his first race ever made a
great final shot under the lights with a 7.16. 'Wild Al' Wiech also made his best
run with the Rocky clan (this is actually his first race ever two as he was licensing
at Edmonton a month ago. His et was a 7.18. Cal Tebb had to pedal his GTO under
the lights but ran a 6.97 and Eddy Plaizier leads with a 6.93. This race is wide
open and there are three or four guys with legitimate shots to win the ACE cup
Sunday afternoon.
Friday testing at the Open.
Friday testing for the National Open saw all the Rocky Mountain floppers make hits. Corey Sekura blasted out a 6.68/205, his quickest ever. Brother Ron, was beside his but he had a forgettable run. He had to pedal the car and then at 700 feet the car nosed over and then blew out the burst panel. Unfortunately is was not just the panel that let go. The bottom end suffered extensive damage as he kicked the rods out for the new Chevy II.
And not enough spares to fix the damage. Then later in the day, Corey made another couple laps and he went 6.88 in his last one and then it too suffered damage, to the valve train. Whether or not they can salvage one bullet out of the two has yest to be seen. Eddy Plaizier went a couple high 6.80's right where he wants to be. Cory Kincaid ripped off a great 6.91 (right on their 6.90 index this weekend). He also had a solid light with his new B&J Spec Rite drive system.
Cal Tebb went 6.97 in his second lap, I missed his first one. I also missed Joey Steckler's first hit, his second he had to pedal the Corvette and he slowed to a 7.1. David Brant made two hits, running a 7.17 best and then getting real loose on his second. Al Weich went 7.70 in his first and then got loose in the same spot at Brant.
Norm Kolwich went 7.17 at only 150, so he will be in the low 7's or high sixes soon. His second lap he had to pedal the car and he lifted after the pedal job at 100 feet. Arvid Fonstad had the wheels up and he turned in a 7.17 also. July 20, 2011
Norm gets er done!
The Mission National Open is just days away, and we are racing for a Wally this weekend. The Rocky Mountin Floppers will be well represented with 10 cars in attendance including Norm Kolwich, who will be competing for the first time. He got licensed last weekend at Edmonton and is ready to debut his 53 Covette in competition. This will be a fun event. We will be racing side by side against our buddy's from Washington and Oregon in the NWBB/FC group. Canada vs US, and it wll be a blast. While the Americans don't really have a hard index like our 6.90 for Mission, they are qualifying based on a 6.85 at MRP. That being said, when we race side by side Saturday the winner will determined by whoever is closer to their respective qualifying number (6.90 for us and 6.85 for the BB's).
Norm made all his necessary hits at Castrol, so he heads south thanks to Joey Steckler in his monster trailer. Norm will cross over his IHRA to NHRA license on Friday, and then will butt heads against 20 other competitors. I bet he is stoked!
June 28, 2011 The Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals. (photos courtesy Dean Murdoch and Bob Wilson)
The biggest drag race in Western Canada. This weekend the event ran on a 6.99 index and they had 12 cars trying to make the 8 car field. The field included 9 full time members, Brent Harris, Darrelll Webb and Sherri Bodnarchuk.
Saturday qualifying Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Cars. The Rocky Mountain Funny Cars were the first group of Pro cars to run this weekend and as usual the teams were set to party, and party they did. It was bench racing Friday night after the day got rained out, just 30 minutes before they were set to make their first hit. Saturday night after final qualifying, they partied hard with an awesome spread including pork tenderloin, chicken, sausages, perogies, cabbage rolls and everything else imaginable... oh ya, the Jello shots were great. As far as the racing goes here is the report (courtesy SpeedZone Magazine) Saturday qualifying... three sessions
Ron Sekura was the first out and he ran rival Darrell Webb in the 'Burnout King' Lucas Oil Corvette. Both cars did great long burnout (maybe a slight edge to Ron) and both backed up at 50mph. Ron had 'Retro Nancy' as the back up chic and all the male fans at least liked that. Webb went a 7.11 and Ron unfortunately left before the tree was activated so he got no time.
Call Tebb ran Sherri Bodnarchuk in the next pairing and it was Cal Tebb ripped off a 7.04/195 while Bodnarchuk had holes out or an ignition issue and she slowed to a 7.57/150. Joey Steckler ran Eddy Plaizier and this one was a great side by side. And like the last couple event Joey ran as, he ran right on the index, a great 6.993/198. Plaizier ran a close 7.10/191. Cory Kincaid, in his race against rookie David Brant saw Cory's 55 Chevy have holes out and a slowing 8.21 while the rookie in his first race ran a very good 7.11/183. Brent Harris and Hank Weultges ran side by side in their Willy's and it was the veteran Harris taking the stripe with a 7.36 to a 7.79. The final car down the track was Arvid Fonstad. He was set to run Cory Anstad but the Paradise RV Camaro broke during the warm-up and they will not make the show this weekend. Round one qualifying

He went 7.054 to go all the way up to the #3 spot in his first ever race. Eddy Plaizier improved to a 7.08, Ron Sekura went 7.21 to get into the field and Brent harris went 7.25 to move into the field Round two order 1

9 6000 PNOSA Arvid Fonstad, Entwistle AB, '71 Mustang 7.474 0.484 166.97 Final qualifying Saturday's final round saw Cory Kincaid finally get in a decent lap, a 7.48, unfortunately is fell two and a half tenth's shy of the field. Cory had plans on running a converter trans combo but it was late getting to the shop and he did not have it in the car, so he ran is old clutch combo. He had to run some old disks and the car would not launch hard enough to run a low seven. He will be ready for the next event at Mission. Hank Weultjes debuted his newly painted Willy and it is very nice. His Donovan powered hemi is still in the tuning stage and he made three 7.7 passes on the car, a bit of tweaking and he will be ready to compete in the low 7 high 6 second zone. Sherrie Bodnarchuk made her best run, and it was enough to get into the field. She went 7.17 along side Arvil Fonstad's 7.23. His '23 bumped out Brent Harris from the field and he was up next. He ran his second 7.2 but it fell just short, as he went 7.28. Ron Sekura was beside Harris and Ron who is usually in the low 7's, high 6's did just that, as he went 6.95 on his final qualifier. A great run but too quick to put him in the #1 spot. His 7.21 had to be the number to keep the Sekura team in the field. A small jetting change for round one of elims and he will be tough to beat! Eddy Plaizier ran closer to the number a 7.05, but he did not improve in the field and would have to settle for #4. Darrell Webb did not improve on his 7.11 earlier (7.24), and he will end up #5. The next pair was one that you see at many event finals with the Rocky boys, as Cal Tebb took on Joey Steckler. What a great race as Tebb matched Steckler's earlier right on 6.99 to the thousandths, a 6.993. Tebb's speed was quicker though by 1.5 mph and that put him into the #1 spot. Steckler ran another consistent lap, this one a 7.06 that had his car dialed in for eliminations. But Tebb taking away his #1 spot had to hurt a bit. David Brant could not improve on his earlier 7.05 as he went the wrong way on the tune-up, slowing to a 7.21. He would remain #3 in the field. Al Weich finished his licensing on the run prior so he had the task of running quicker that 7.23 to make the field. 'Wild Al' could not run the #, a 7.70 is what came up on the score board. With licensing complete though, he can now work on dial in his Charger for the rest of the season's events. Final qualifying

657 D Brant PNOSA 0.064 Round one saw Sekura run Steckler and the cars ran close to the number but Ron had a big holeshot on the Corvette driven by the Joey's Place owner. That hole shot advanced the new Chevy II driver to the semi finals. Eddy Plaizier got a freebie when Darrell Webb could not get his Corvette to fire. He continued to get closer to the 6.99 number with a 7.03 and a great .09 rt. He would be tough the rest of eliminations. Sherri Bodnarchuk defeated the new member Brant with her second teen of the weekend, a 7.19. Brant slowed to a 7.31. In the final pair Cal Tebb ran Arvil Fonstad and Tebb got a relatively easy win as he ran another 7.0, a 7.08 to dispatch Fonstad's 7.41. The semi final pairings were Tebb vs Plaizier and Sekura and Bodnarchuk. The Tebb/Plaizier match-up had all the potential to be a great race, and when you look at the numbers it was. Tebb went 7.062 and Plaizier went 7.056. Tebb got the starting line advantage by .077. Unfortunately for Tebb. Plaizier's light was a .071 meaning Tebb went red by .006. A tough break for the 'Roadhammer' driver. The other semi final saw Sekura and Bodnarchuk battle for the final round. This one was over at the starting line as Bodnarchuk was a day late in rt's, as Sekura had 3/10ths. Ron went 7.13 to Sherri's 7.17 but the rt's spelt the end of her day. The final round would see two of the toughest drivers in the series, and both were in brand new cars, that in itself is a testament to their teams preparation. Unfortunately for the weather change in the afternoon they could not run the final. a major hail and rain storm went through the area and then the sun came out caused moisture to weep up through the rubber on the track. The rest of the racing was reduced to 1/8th mile and because of the index deal, the decision was made to run the final round at another 1/4 mile event later in the season. Photos
to come over the next couple days. June 20, 2011 A cool little tidbit out one of the newest RMNFC members (courtesy Joey Steckler)
New
member David Brant got his license last weekend in Edmonton, he did very well
and now wants to compete at the Rocky's, the problem was that his body, a 1996
Camaro is too new for the body rule for the upcoming IHRA National
All the teams are very stoked asbout this coming weekend's Rocky Mountain Nationals. All the RMNFC teams will be attending, and there should be a few others as well. Make sure you come out and say hi to all pf us. They will have their usual 'corral' set up which is perfect for the fans to interact the the teams. June 18, 2011 Rain washed out the event in Medicine Hat Saturday. Friday, four of the teams got in a run, but because the track was a bit loose and the traction was not perfect a 7.11 best by Ron Sekura was the best run. They hope to rescedule the event for later in the year. June 16, 2011 (Carla Schnieder and Sekura team photos)
Race #'s 1 and 2 took place last weekend at Castrol Raceway. It was a pretty good start for last year's series runner-up as he took both Saturday's win and Sunday's> They ran on a 6.99 index and Cal ran 7.00 on both days. Joey got the #1 on Sunday with a right on 6.99. Both Cal and Joey ran in the final rounds on both days and both days it was Cal who took the win. SUnday it was a huge holeshot as Joey was closer to the 6.99 number by .05 but he was snoozing a bit on the tree in the final. Cal had an easier win on day one as he ran 7.05 to Joey's loose 7.23. Hank Weulgtes made his series debut with his 41 Willy's and David Brant was finishing off his licensing at the event. The Reaper went 7.03 and 6.84. He is now set for the Rocky's race and likely the event this coming weekend at Medicine Hat. Their poster is below.
This coming weekend the Rocky boyz (and girls) will be at Medicine Hat for their Funny Car shootout Friday and Saturday.
Next
week leading up to the Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Ron Hodgson will be hosting an
Open House at his race shop in the Reil Busioness Park in St, Albert. All gear
heads are welcome. June 1, 2011 A couple news items this week from the RMNFC boys. The Sekura boys and Cal Tebb were at Castrol Raceway the last couple days, as Ron and his companies rented the track and got their new Chevy II on the track. We will have photos from their deal in the next couple days. Both their cars (the Camaro and Chevy II) made four laps each. Eddy Plaizier was South at the Vegas Rockabliiy Reunion last weekend. The big surpise heading down there is he debuted a new bodied Funny Car. This is a one off unique body from the 'Ace Manufacturing' manufacturing dept based on a 37 Chevy. The most unique aspect is that it is an all aluminum body. The roof line is very different as well. I can't wait to see it painted. From Eddie, who made it to the semi finals. In 7.0 Pro, the new 37 Altered, Chevy all Aluminum body, ran a 7.01 to a 7.05 , to eventual winner Philips who an a .009 lite to my .100, great race, but the tree got us, he was gunning for us as previous rounds we ran a 7.01, and 7.02,

Joey and Cal spent both days this weekend testing at Castrol Raceway, on their first hits of the year both cars went 6.87 and 6.89. Both teams decided to see who could be the closest to a 6.90 on the next run. Joey went 6.88 and Cal a 6.89 . All things considered they were both happy with their first day of the year. On big factor in trying to run a number was there was a tail wind with gusts of 60-80 km. per hour. On both days cars requiring the use of chutes could only run singles to prevent any accidents at the top end as cars made the turn off the track. Sunday was the same as far as the wind goes so it was singles only again . Joey was not able to get a hold of the track and called it a day, Cal managed a 7.01 on a 6.99 tune up. Both teams were very happy with their results and seem to be ready for the first race of the year. Darrell Sabrowsky photos

At Boise last week the Sekura's got cabin fever and headed south for the Lucas Oil event. There was a Heritage (NHRA) Nitro Funny Car race and we ran during their qualifying session. Both cars layed down huge burnouts and ran a best of 6.83 (it would have put them in the field after the first round of qualifying for the nitro cars. Blair Alderton photos

April 21, 2011 A few of the latest updates: Progress is being made on the Sekura race team's new 66 Chevy II body.

for attaching the tin work and windows also all the mounting pads, hatch, etc.
The body work is done with the body in epoxy primer.
Ron and his brother Corey can not wait for the snow to melt up here so they are loading up both cars this weekend and heading to Boise Idaho for their up coming race, next weekend. Cal and Joey and their crews will be spending the long weekend getting their cars running so they are ready for testing as soon as Castrol Raceway opens in early May , hopefully! The first couple shots of the new Chevy II body for Ron and Corey Sekura.
February 3, 2011 More great news for the RMNFCA! We
have 4 new members with cars either ready for 2011 or under construction. And
to add to that the Sekura Bros are mounting this totally cool Chevy II on the
chassis that formerly had the 84 Trans Am mounted. Looks like it will be another
great year of funny car racing in western Canada. The 2011 schedule is almost complete. Here is the first batch of races. More likely to come. June 11-12 Edmonton, CMDRA
bike race, RMNFCA points race Aug 13-14th Provost
Alberta (Airport Exhibition) February 2, 2011 Another new member is on board for 2011. Wild Al Weich from Southern Alberta will debut this season. Here is his profile page.
January 20, 2011 Norm Kolwich's 2011 car.
It's -40 frikin below zero in Central Alberta, but we are all thinking about racing like it's going to start next month. This is Norm Kolwich's car, he has been a dedicated crew guy on not only Cals' car's but the Boychuk dragster, Funny car and Don St. Arnaud's A/fuel dragster, so he has a ton of experience. The car is a 53 Corvette body and will run a Hemi with clutch and 3 spd Lenco. The chassis is a work of art. Norm and Cal have been working on it for months. Cal has built 3-4 for himself now and every new car is better than the one before. Norm will eventually run a 1967 Mustang body. He has the body now but until it is complete, this 53 Corvette will be the one.
Besides Norm's and Shane's new cars, there are three other teams showing promise to be out in 2011. One from Fort McMurray, one from Calgary and one from Vancouver Island. It looks like it will be a very good year in 2011.
The 2011 schedule will be released soon January 2011 Happy New Year
